Ask Shopify Sidekick about your printing
On this page
Sidekick is the assistant built into your Shopify admin. Autoprinter lets Sidekick read your printing information, so you can ask about it in plain language and get answers from Autoprinter's own records.
What you can ask#
| Ask about | For example |
|---|---|
| Your monthly order allowance | "How many Autoprinter orders do I have left this month?" |
| Your Print Stations and printers | "Is my printer connected?" or "Why isn't anything printing?" |
| Today's prints | "What did Autoprinter print today?" |
| A specific order | "Why didn't order #1234 print?" |
Each answer links to the Autoprinter page where you can act on it, such as Print History, Printer Setup or Plan & Billing.
The first time you ask#
In each new Sidekick conversation, Sidekick first asks whether it may use Autoprinter for your request. Choose Yes, or Yes, and don't ask again to skip the question next time. Follow-up questions in the same conversation don't ask again.
Asking about a specific order#
Use the order name as it appears in Shopify, for example #1234. Sidekick lists each print job for the order: the document, whether it's waiting, printing, completed or failed, how it started (Automatic Printing, Shopify Flow, manual or the Chrome Extension), the Print Station and the times.
If nothing printed, Sidekick explains why when Autoprinter recorded a reason, for example a Shopify test order, a Point of Sale order set to skip, the monthly order limit, or a Print Station with no Desktop Utility connected, and says what to change.
Sidekick can look up orders from about the last 60 days, and Print History keeps completed prints for 30 days. Answers never include customer names, emails or addresses.
The full record for every order is on the Print History page, where each answer about an order links:
What Sidekick can't do#
Sidekick can't start a print or change your settings. To print from a plain-language request, open Sidekick in Shopify Flow and ask it to draft a workflow with an Autoprinter print action. See Print with Shopify Flow.
