Print History
On this page
Print History shows documents queued for your Print Stations, newest first. Use it to confirm a job was created, see which station handled it, and investigate a failed or waiting print.
Browser previews and browser printing do not create queued jobs, so they do not appear here. An automatic order skipped before queueing because of a rule, setup issue, or monthly limit also has no job row.
Understand the status#
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Pending | Queued and waiting for the Desktop Utility to pick it up. Check that the target station is awake and connected. |
| Claimed | The utility has picked up the job and is handling it. An unfinished claim can be picked up again after its five-minute recovery window. |
| Completed | The utility reported successful submission to the printer. This does not confirm that paper physically came out; check the printer if the page is missing. |
| Failed | The job reported an error. Open its details to read the message before retrying. |
Completed jobs are automatically removed once they are more than 30 days old; failed jobs after 90 days. Age is measured from job creation. Pending and claimed jobs are not automatically removed. This page is an operational history, not a permanent archive of your documents.
To tidy up sooner, open Settings → Job history. Clear completed removes finished jobs, and Clear all history removes every completed and failed job. Jobs that are still waiting to print are never cleared. Clearing cannot be undone.
Find the right jobs#
The filter card has four independent groups. Choose one option in each group to combine them:
- Status: focus on waiting, claimed, completed, or failed jobs.
- Date range: show the last 7 days, last 30 days, or all retained history.
- Document type: filter packing slips, invoices, return slips, gift receipts, pick slips, or shipping labels.
- Source: filter Manual, Auto, Label, or Print again.
Print again identifies copies sent from completed document jobs. Auto includes queued Print Chain runs and Automatic Printing events. Label identifies label-capture jobs. Manual includes manually queued documents and older jobs without a recorded source; some older labels may therefore appear there.
Counts beside filter options describe the retained history across the shop, not the result of the other currently selected filters. The jobs list shows the actual combined result. Use Clear filters to return to all retained jobs.
Read a job's details#
Expand a job to see its available details and event history, including the order, document, Print Station, timestamps, and any reported error. This helps distinguish “the order never queued” from “the utility has not picked it up” and “the printer reported a problem.”
If the page warns that a connected station is not claiming work, quit and reopen the Desktop Utility on that computer, then check whether pending jobs begin moving.
Print again#
For a completed document job, choose Print again to send one copy of the saved document to the same Print Station. It is available for 3 days and does not count toward your monthly orders. After 3 days, open the Shopify order and start a new print.
Print again is for documents. To reprint a shipping label, use Reprint on the job in the Desktop Utility's Recent Jobs, or reprint it from the order in Shopify.
Retry or clear a failed job#
Fix the cause first. For example, reconnect the printer or correct its selection in the utility. Then choose Retry. You can select multiple failed jobs for a bulk retry.
Retry uses the same saved document and preview link. It does not fetch updated order data, apply a changed template, or renew an expired preview. If the document is stale or the preview has expired, return to the Shopify order and start a new print instead.
Clear removes a failed job from history. It does not undo a print, cancel a Shopify order, or fix the underlying error. Only clear entries when you no longer need their history; failed jobs can also be selected and cleared together.
Get help with a job#
Open the job and choose Report a problem. The support form includes the related job's context; describe what you expected and what happened, check your reply email, and send the request. You can also open support with Need help? anywhere in the app.
