Customize a built-in template
On this page
Every document type comes with a built-in template you can adjust with switches and drop-downs. No code. This page lists every option, by document type, so you can see what is possible before you start.
Built-in templates exist for packing slips, invoices, pick slips, return slips, and gift receipts.
Turn one on and open it#
- Open Templates and pick the document type.
- Flip the switch on the built-in template's card to turn it on. New installs start with every built-in off.
- Click Customize.
The options are on the left and a live preview is on the right. The preview updates as you change things. Nothing is stored until you click Save (or press Cmd/Ctrl + S). Saving also turns the template on if it was off.
Above the preview, choose Sample Data, Latest Order, or Order # to see the design with a real order. Download saves a PDF of what you see.
Options every document shares#
Paper size. Built-in templates print on Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or A4 (210 × 297 mm). For 4 × 6 labels or receipt rolls, download a sample instead. See Custom Templates.
Styling
- Use store colors applies your brand accent color to titles and highlights.
- Brand intensity sets how much color this document uses: Subtle, Standard, or Bold, or leave it on your store setting. Your accent color and store-wide intensity are in Settings → Branding. See Branding & Tax ID.
Header (all documents except pick slips)
- Show logo, with Logo style (Full or Square) and Logo position (Header or Footer).
- Logo URL (override) uses a different logo for this one template. Leave it blank to use your shop logo.
- Address, Phone, and Email show your company details in the header.
Footer (all documents except pick slips)
- Footer message, such as a thank-you line. On return slips this field is Return policy text.
- Phone, Email, and Website show your contact details in the footer.
Barcode (packing slips, invoices, and return slips)
- Show barcode prints a scannable barcode.
- Barcode data chooses what it encodes: order number, Amazon Order ID, PO number, tags, or tracking number.
- Position puts it at the top or the bottom.
Your company name, address, phone, tax ID, and accent color come from Settings, so they stay the same across every document.
