Print documents in another language

Updated · 5 min read

On this page

Autoprinter's built-in templates can print your packing slips, invoices, return slips, gift receipts and pick slips in English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch or Italian. Dates and prices follow the region you choose, and built-in templates lay out each address for its destination country. Pick Deutsch (Deutschland), for example, and your packing slip prints as a "Lieferschein", dated 6.10.2026, with totals such as 1.234,50 €.

Choose a language and region#

  1. Open Settings → Language and format.
  2. Under Language and region, choose an option. Each one names a language and a region, such as Deutsch (Schweiz) or Français (Canada).
  3. Check the preview below the list. It shows a document title, an order date, an address and a total in that format.
  4. Choose Save in the save bar.

An example store in the United Kingdom. The preview shows a sample title, date, address, and total in the chosen format before you save.

One setting covers every document Autoprinter prints for your store, including bulk and automatic printing. The built-in template editor's preview uses it too.

Languages and regions#

Language Regions
English United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, South Africa, and every other country
Français France, Canada, Belgique, Suisse
Deutsch Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz
Español España, México
Nederlands Nederland, België
Italiano Italia, Svizzera

Some regions change a few words as well as the formats:

  • English outside the United States uses British spelling, such as "colour".
  • Deutsch (Schweiz) writes "ss" instead of "ß".
  • Français (Canada) and Français (Suisse) leave out the space that France puts before "?" and "!".
  • Español (México) calls the packing slip a "Remisión".

English for any other country#

After its main regions, the English group lists every other country, such as English (Japan). Choose one to print English headings with that country's dates and prices. For countries whose main language is written right to left, such as Israel or Saudi Arabia, dates and numbers use the UK style.

What changes on the printed page#

  • Headings and labels on built-in templates, such as "Packing Slip" and "Ship To".
  • Default text you haven't edited, such as the footer message and the return instructions.
  • Dates: 06/10/2026 for the United Kingdom or 6.10.2026 for Germany, instead of the US style 10/6/2026.
  • Prices and percentages: the right currency symbol, separators and position, such as £1,234.50 or 1.234,50 €, and 8,25 % for a German tax rate.
  • Addresses: on built-in templates, each address is laid out the way its destination country expects, such as the postcode before the city for Germany. The country name prints in your document language.

Document titles in each language:

Document Français Deutsch Español Nederlands Italiano
Packing slip Bon de livraison Lieferschein Albarán Pakbon Distinta di imballaggio
Invoice Facture Rechnung Factura Factuur Fattura
Return slip Bon de retour Rücksendeschein Hoja de devolución Retourformulier Modulo di reso
Gift receipt Ticket cadeau Geschenkbeleg Ticket regalo Cadeaukassabon Scontrino regalo
Pick slip Bon de préparation Pickliste Lista de picking Picklijst Lista di prelievo

New and existing stores#

  • New stores start in their country's format. When you install, Autoprinter reads your store's country from Shopify and picks the matching option once. The card shows Matched to your store while your setting matches it. Stores in Belgium start in Nederlands (België) and stores in Switzerland start in Deutsch (Schweiz); switch to Français (Belgique), Français (Suisse) or Italiano (Svizzera) if that suits your customers better.
  • Existing stores keep the classic format until you choose. English (United States), classic format prints exactly as your documents did before, and you can switch back to it at any time. Stores outside the United States see a reminder on the Home page until they choose a format or dismiss it.

Text you typed stays as written#

On built-in templates, a field you edit prints exactly as you wrote it, in any language, and no longer follows the setting. Reset to default under the field brings back the default text in your document language. See Default text and language.

So if you want a French packing slip with your own French footer, choose a Français option and write the footer in French.

Custom templates and samples#

Custom templates keep the wording you wrote. Their dates, prices and percentages follow your setting. Templates you add from Browse samples are custom templates, so their headings stay in English until you edit them in the template editor.

To lay out addresses by country in your own HTML, use the lines address variable. The Template variables reference shows the code and a fallback.

What doesn't change#

  • Autoprinter's own screens and this help center are in English. Only the printed documents change language.
  • Order details from Shopify, such as product names and customer notes, print as they appear in your Shopify admin.
  • Shipping labels print exactly as Shopify creates them.
  • One language per store. Every document uses the same setting, whatever language your customer speaks.
